General Questions

The AGI’s Chancery campus is centrally located in the heart of Auckland with easy access to trains and buses for a hassle free commute to and from student residences.

Auckland Transport is responsible for Auckland's public-transport services including buses, ferries, trains, roads, cycling and parking. Information about transport timetables are available at the AT Website.

Auckland Transport provides discounts to tertiary students for travelling. Students are advised to get an AT HOP card for travelling.

The nearest train station to AGI’s Chancery Campus is Britomart.

Winter in Auckland usually lasts from June to August. Auckland rarely witnesses frost or snow; however wet winter days are something to look-out for.

With harsh winds, an umbrella might be hard to manage. But you may always choose to wear a light t-shirt, thermal top or blouse under a warm woolen-jersey or rainproof sweatshirt. You may also choose to wear a singlet under your t-shirt or blouse, a jacket or a puffer jacket hat, a cap or beanie or a scarf and some warm gloves. Jeans are not warm enough for winter, but you may choose to get some 'moleskins' as they are quite trendy and keep warm. Girls may choose to wear tights under their jeans for warmth. A warm pair of boots while travelling to college and some rain-friendly footwear for the day would be ideal.

Remember, temperatures inside the college are maintained for warmth and comfort whereas outside temperatures can be cold, so it is advised to dress accordingly.

In high summer, sunshine can be severe and strong. Your skin may burn more easily in New Zealand than most parts of the world. Liberal application of sunscreen is advised.

You may choose to wear light cotton or linen t-shirts, light cotton blouses. Sweatshirts or cardigans can be tagged with a light cotton outfit; in-case it gets colder. Light cotton jeans, light cotton skirts or trousers can also be worn. You may choose to wear a pair of sandals, 'slip-on's, jandals or light flat shoes.

As always, remember to carry an umbrella - Auckland is known for erratic, unpredictable showers.

Students needs to show their passport and proof of address in New Zealand to the Auckland City Library staff to avail a membership card. Members may use the Wi-Fi and computers at the library for recreational and study purposes.

Cost of living will depend upon each student's lifestyle.

  • Rent: $150 to $250 a week
  • Groceries: $70 to $100 a week
  • Transportation: $60 a week
  • Mobile plans: $20 to $30 a month
  • Recreational activities: $225 to $300 a year
  • Miscellaneous: $50 a week

Working in New Zealand

Students are usually presented with an option of working 20 hours with their work visa. But it is always advised to refer to the details of your student visa before finding part-time work.

You may register with Student Job Search online and may look on , or similar websites to seek and apply for part-time positions listed.

Prospective employment can also found by increasing networking and building relationships in the industry.
Clinical placements are an important aspect of AGI’s Healthcare programmes.

These placements help develop the skills and attributes needed in becoming good healthcare professionals. They also help graduates meet the needs of patients in aged care, disability and community care settings.

The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) has made changes to the English language requirements for international students that are set out in Rule 18 of the NZQF Programme Approval and Accreditation Rules.

AGI’s orientation programme provides students with all the information needed for settling in at AGI and in New Zealand over your initial days in the country. As a new student, it can be daunting to meet new friends, learn about AGI’s campus and services or even finding timetables or help. The orientation programme helps solve these mundane student queries.
